BERGISCHE WEG: A HIGHLIGHT FOR LONG- AND SHORT DISTANCE WALKERS ALIKE
Unlimited hiking enjoyment and Bergisch attractions
The Bergische Weg is something special. It is so much more than a hundred-year-old hiking trail. As a long-distance hiking trail, it offers unlimited hiking enjoyment. From the Baldeneysee in Essen to the Siebengebirge mountains in the Rhineland, it covers a distance of almost 260 kilometres and passes through the heart of the Bergisches Land. Scenic and cultural “jewels” line the route.
Fantastic natural surroundings and interesting cultural history
Three stages of this premium hiking trail pass through the Bergisches Land and showcase the gems around the three cities. These include the enchanting old town of Solingen Gräfrath, the Burgholz State Forest with its collection of trees from a wide variety of countries that is unique in Germany and the “industrious” Morsbach river. Listen to its roar on your hike and be sure to plan a visit to one of the many museums along your route. Because this is where Bergisch history comes alive.
How about another ringside seat for some views of vast proportions? Where the Morsbach meets the Wupper, the filigree steel structure of the Müngsten Bridge hovers more than a hundred meters above you. Another highlight is Schloss Burg. There are fantastic views into the distance from the former ancestral seat of the Counts of Berg who gave the region its name.
