Tour 2: Around the Wupper Valley

More than just a suspension railway: Experience the delights of Wuppertal

The river on the right, the road ahead of you, the suspension railway above you and, running over it, the train: welcome to Wuppertal. Right after the Sonnborn junction, you delve into a completely different world.

Zooviertel is more tranquil, Arrenberg on the other hand was once a workers’ quarter. Here you can find somewhere more creative to relax - almost in the centre, but only almost.

On the opposite side, Briller Viertel is where the richer people live. Mirker train station has recently reinvented itself as a co-working space and event location. A good opportunity to take a short break.

In Barmen, follow the Wupper and the suspension railway through the elongated centre of the valley. Interesting sights: Landgericht suspension railway station, the Steinweg Viaduct and Immanuelskirche, which is now a cultural centre.

Wuppertal is a mixture of places. But not just that. Forests and meadows are just a stones throw away. The stretch via Beyenburg and Schwelm back to Vohwinkel passes by old factories and modern businesses as well as over gentle hills and through silent forests. Pure diversity on two wheels or four.
