Bergisch Panorama Cycle Trail Balkantrasse

Cycle comfortably through the Bergisches Land

Balkantrasse. The name is slightly reminiscent of the Balkan Express. That was what the former railway line between Leverkusen-Opladen and Remscheid-Lennep was called by the locals. Today, a cycle trail runs along the route. Ideal for a comfortable cycle with views from the lofty heights.

The start point for the Bergisch tour is at Lennep train station. Before heading off, it is worth taking a stroll through the little alleyways of the historical town centre. Or follow the trail of the inventor of the x-ray, at the German Röntgen Museum.

The former railway line takes you through the landscape without any big inclines. City living and the idyllic countryside interchange. In Wermelskirchen, the route runs along the quiet roads through the centre of the village.

As you cycle along the 19 kilometre long route, the imposing milestones serve as reminders of the railway of the past, and little spots along the way invite you to take a break.
