CYCLING TOUR THROUGH THE BERGISCHES LAND
Have fun on the well-developed cycle paths in the Bergisches Land
For those who cycle for pleasure: Bergisch Panorama Cycle Trails on former railway lines
Enjoy a leisurely ride along former railway lines through and around the towns of Remscheid, Solingen and Wuppertal. The Nordbahntrasse gives you a fantastic view of Wuppertal. The Sambatrasse promises wild sights as it passes over the enclosures of Wuppertal Zoo. And the Korkenziehertrasse takes you on a journey to Gräfrath, straight into the Middle Ages.
The best part: the train lines are virtually free of ascents. So you can discover the Bergisch landscape without getting out of breath.
Many sections are also part of the Bergisch Panorama Cycle Trails network. They offer you wide views of nature, rural idylls, but also the hustle and bustle of town life.
The Bergisch Panorama Cycle Trail invites you to stop now and then, such as on Müngsten Bridge and at Burg Castle.
Tip: Travel part of the way with the suspension monorail or simply take the “Bergischer FahrradBus” if you’re arriving on a weekend in the cycling season. It stops in Wermelskirchen, around 6 kilometres to the east of Castle Burg.
For those who conquer mountains
As a mountain biker, are you looking for some fun away from paved routes? The Klingentrail in the mountain bike park in Solingen promises pure downhill adventure.
To cross the river: the Müngsten suspended ferry
The suspended ferry takes you (and your bike) from the Müngsten Bridge Park to the Remscheid bank to cycle on the recommended eastern side of the Wupper. You can find a map here.
